Adidas @ Berlin Marathon

Swedish Chameleon got the assignment to develop custom GoPro and IPhone head-rigs for Adidas.
The rigs were to be used filming marathon runner’s faces during the Berlin Marathon in September 2011.

The challenge:

Mount 23 GoPros and 1 IPhone on the head of runners that will run more than 40 kilometers for up to 5 hours with the camera in front of their face. It had to be lightweight, comfortable, steady and adjustable.
We tried every solution you can imagine.

The Solution:

We based the final solution on a lamp-rig for orienteer’s on which we attached a lightweight aluminum bow, adjustable for head size and camera angle. To get center of weight on top of the head we put a 4500mah battery pack and some metal weights on the back, it served as a perfect counter weight, stabilizer and power pack. The rig was also equipped with rain protection for the lens and battery.

All runners finished the rigs where intact (but soaking wet) and the response was god, some runners actually beat their personal best.

The IPhone was live streaming during the whole marathon and the GoPros did a great job!
